Norfolk Southern is hosting its first crude-by-rail emergency response class this week at the Safety and Emergency Response Training Center in Pueblo, Co.
Forty emergency responders from nine states (Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Alabama) are participating in a three-day program on how to respond to a rail incident involving crude oil.
Participants practiced specialized firefighting techniques yesterday during a mock 20-car train derailment and fire. Norfolk Southern will be offering two additional crude-by-rail classes in October and November.
